Historia vitae magistra

After spending summers in East Hampton I became a full-time resident in 1970—so I have been here most of my life and it is truly home.  I built my business here, became a journalist here, and formed my community bonds here.

 Philanthropy

Current positons:
Hampton Classic Horse Show, board of directors.
Amagansett Food Institute, chairman of the board of directors.
Previous positions:
East Hampton Historical Society, president.
Hamptons International Film Festival, founding board member.
Robert Wilson Watermill Center, chairman of the Community Board.
Thomas Moran Trust (Moran House and Studio), trustee.
Pollock-Krasner House and Study Center, advisory board.
New World Symphony Orchestra, trustee.

Business

I established Braverman Brokers on Main Street in East Hampton in 1976 and continued to head the business as it grew into Braverman Newbold Brennan Real Estate with additional offices in Bridgehampton and Sag Harbor.  The entire business was later acquired by Sotheby’s International Realty.

I continue to hold an independent real estate broker’s license and function primarily as a senior advisor on selective transactions as well as handling my own development work.

Media

Hamptons Magazine: I began writing for Hamptons in 1997 and until 2019 I had the position of senior editor at large.  Although semi-retired now, I continue to contribute occasional features.

The East Hampton Star: For six years I wrote Uncorked, a weekly wine column.

WVVH: For seven years I was commentator and host for the television broadcasts of Bridgehampton Polo.

Formerly contributor to Gotham Magazine, Edible East End, thehamptons.com, The Morning Line (polo newsletter).
