If New York is the melting pot, then the Hamptons is where it sizzles. And behind the heat lies the elitist of the elite, are the most brilliant minds and money makers who call the East End their home (or at least one of their homes). Some grew up in mansions, others in urban high-rises. But out here it doesn’t matter — it’s how you got here that really counts.
From Quogue to Montauk, blue bloods and the nouveau riche become friends, neighbors and often collaborators. The unique blend of country and coast seduces the titans of big business, and even Hollywood heavyweights and artists-du-jour make the pilgrimage. There’s more than enough inspiration to go around. Just ask Steven Spielberg, Ross Bleckner, Peter Matthiessen and Richard Meier.
On weekends, the action shifts from Wall Street to Main Street, where John Lobb loafers give way to flip-flops. And the only sign of stress is waiting in line at Dreesen’s. But the piping hot doughnuts are always worth the wait.
The verdant landscape is truly a grown-up playground, where high society and the hopefuls while the hours away: Actors cycling to the beach, music moguls shooting hoops, designers rummaging the thrift shops, and chefs picking fresh produce from the farm-stands.
Oh, you already know about the glamorous nightlife. The Roberto Cavalli-clad starlets on the dance floor, the handsome millionaires in Loro Piano cashmere at clam bakes on the beach. But between it all, and even among it all, you’ll find laughter, relaxation and memories for a lifetime.
